Matthew Lawrence

Matt was born and raised in Fayette, AL before moving to Hattiesburg, MS at the age of 15. After being shipped off to boarding school before his senior year, he graduated high school in Western Samoa at Pacific Coast Academy in 2001. Since then, he has lived all over the USA, served in the US Air Force, and worked in a number of industries in a variety of positions from bartender to oil field laborer to electrical foreman before pursuing graduate school and then a career as an attorney. Matt has an associate’s degree in Electrical Systems Technology from the Community College of the Air Force, a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Southern Mississippi, and a master’s degree in Philosophy from San Francisco State University. He received his law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2019. In law school, he was the editor-in-chief of the Race and Poverty Law Journal and has published and presented peer-reviewed legal articles on several topics such as the ethics of Alzheimer’s disease diagnostic technology and how advances in neurology relate to First Amendment rights. Matt has academic concentrations in Health Care Law and bioethics.

Matt is admitted to practice law in Mississippi and is a member of the Access to Justice Committee of the Mississippi Bar Association. His initial practice and current mindset was/is geared towards furthering civil rights, community development, and healthcare access in Mississippi. Matt joined the firm in February 2021 and currently handles a variety of personal injury cases out of the Hattiesburg office.

Matt’s only child, Zoey, was born and raised mostly in California’s Bay Area and is a sophomore on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll at Ole Miss studying political science, legal studies, and philosophy. They like to travel and have been all over the country and to Iceland, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand together. Matt also enjoys epic hikes, bike rides, and back country camping and is a musician who has performed hundreds shows in various locales over the years.
