In August of 2019, Attorneys Richard Schwartz and Patrick Wooten were featured on WLBT to discuss the dangers of using the popular weed killer Roundup®. In the interview, they talked about current legal action taken by thousands of individuals claiming the product caused cancer. Our lawyers stated that Monsanto, and its parent company Bayer, failed to adequately warn customers of the potential dangers of using it. They are seeking to get Roundup® removed from stores, as concern should be on consumers’ health rather than profits.
Attorney Schwartz stated that over 20,000 lawsuits have been initiated against Monsanto and Bayer, and hundreds of individuals have contacted our firm to discuss potential cases. The large number of people filing lawsuits could be attributed to the fact that a person could be harmed by Roundup® by not only breathing it in but also getting it on the skin.
Glyphosate is the active ingredient in Roundup®. Attorney Schwartz explained that Monsanto knew the substance was harmful, but nothing has been done about it. However, the company continues to claim that its weed killer is safe.
Attorney Wooten pointed out that in 2015, the World Health Organization listed glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. He said that Monsanto and Bayer did not correctly label Roundup®, putting the lives of many at risk. With so many people potentially affected by the product, action must be taken.
