Wdam Interviews Attorneys Schwartz & Wooten on Roundup Lawsuits

This week, attorneys Richard Schwartz and Patrick Wooten from Richard Schwartz & Associates Injury Lawyer, P.A. appeared on the local news program Midday on WDAM 7 for an interview about the ongoing, country-wide lawsuits against The Monsanto Company for injuries associated with the use of its Roundup weed killer. This was an opportunity to help increase awareness of the dangers of Roundup use and to reach out to those who have been negatively impacted by it about the possibility of recovering damages for their losses.

Roundup Lawsuits Gain Momentum

Roundup has potentially impacted people on an international scale. Mr. Wooten explained that there have been 13,000 lawsuits filed in the United States and a class action lawsuit in Canada. Since August 2018, three trials were conducted on this issue, resulting in verdicts against Monsanto ranging between $80 million and $3 billion. Significantly, Roundup puts many people at risk because it is a popular product widely-used by homeowners, gardeners, and farmers alike.

Roundup litigation revealed a strong link between Roundup and the development of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma—a form of cancer characterized by tumors found in a person’s lymphocytes—the cells that are responsible for fighting off infections and other diseases.

During the interview, Attorney Schwartz warned that non-Hodgkin Lymphoma is a particularly concerning condition because it has usually progressed to stage 4 by the time patients and doctors notice it. As a result, patients incur significant costs related to medical treatment, hospitalizations, chemotherapy, not to mention the pain and suffering associated with the disease. However, Monsanto may be liable to compensate non-Hodgkin Lymphoma patients for those costs and losses if their condition was linked to their use of Roundup.
